FEI World Dressage Challenge returns to UAE
12/8/2009
Organized by the Dubai Equestrian Club, the best of the country’s dressage riders have qualified to compete in this international event.
The main objectives of this FEI World Dressage Challenge are to give the less experienced Dressage riders, who under normal circumstances, cannot take part in international Dressage competitions in the more remote countries of the world, the opportunity to compete internationally without having to leave their own country; and to encourage the new generations of riders.
There is a total of 57 countries estimated to participate in the event. The participating countries are divided into 11 zones, with the UAE taking on Greece, Cyprus, Romania and Turkey in FEI Zone 4.
The FEI World Dressage Challenge has been organized under the direction of the National Federations of the participating countries and will feature five performance levels: the Prix St-Georges, Advanced, Medium, Elementary, and Preliminary.
The Preliminary and Elementary classes are now open to both Senior and Junior riders, but separate rankings will be produced. There will now be seven rankings, five for the Seniors and two for the Juniors.
All competitors are put through the same tests adjudicated by the same ground jury that consists of two FEI-appointed international judges who travel to each country within the group.
Dubai Equestrian Club’s General Manager, Ali Moosa Al Khamiri said: “The FEI World Dressage Challenge is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious dressage events to be held in the UAE.
“Each year, we have seen a steady rise in the calibre of riders and horses competing, with our very own riders claiming the top spots in our designated zone, not to mention winning the team competition in the zone.
“We once again welcome the judges, and wish all riders the best of luck. Spectators are more than welcome and we wish all a thoroughly enjoyable day.”
Lilian Sternvad, the Dressage Coordinator at Emirates Equestrian Centre concluded: “This year has seen a significant increase in entries, proving that dressage is a growing sport in the country.
“Additionally we are seeing more purpose-bred dressage horses being imported to the UAE, which is exciting for the development of the sport.”
In addition to this event, the UAE’s top show-jumpers will also be in action on Thursday December 10th and Friday December 11th in a national competition, before the dressage takes centre stage on Saturday. Zabeel Riding Barn is kindly sponsoring the National Show Jumping season for 2009/2010.
Entry to watch is free of charge.
