Saudi 1-2 in opening DSJC highlight

HRH P Abdullah bin Metab Al Saud (pictured) won the feature event on the first day of the AED500,000 Dubai Show Jumping Championship 2008.
 
The Saudi Arabian rider took the Dubai Equestrian Club Two Phases (Class 2), worth AED75,000 in total, after clear rounds in both phases on board Poco Loco.

His time of 31.80s was too good for his fellow countryman Khalid Al Eid, who, under Alriyadh, finished runner-up with a time of 35.53s. Hamad Ali Al Kirbi fared best of the UAE riders, coming home in fifth.

Earlier, the Nad Al Sheba Welcome Stakes (Class 1) was won by UAE rider Abdullah Humaid after his mount Tip Top put in a faultless exhibition in a time of 40.98s.

Organised by the Dubai Equestrian Club and kindly sponsored by Gulf News, Longines and DOM International, the DSJC takes place from today until Saturday and boasts prizemoney of AED 500,000 event.
 
Entertainment includes food and beverage stands, pony rides, face painting, sand art, henna, inflatable games, clowns, stilt walkers, jugglers, a magician, fire displays, and a children’s play area.
 
Gates open at 2pm on Friday, and from 12.30pm on Saturday.
