Germany’s David Will Wins Emirates Airline Two Phase Class

Dubai, UAE, January 28, 2016 - The Dubai Showjumping Championship CSI*** - W (World Cup Arab League) opened its three-day’s of competition on Thursday with David Will capturing the win in the Emirates Airline Two Phases, the Dh80,000 featured class over a field of 31 international riders.

Aboard his mount Monodie H, Will completed the jump course in a decisive time of 34.99.  Frederic David of France, who was runner up in the opening Dubai Equestrian Club Welcome Stakes, finished second on Baloussini in 39.33. Third place was Ferenc Szentirmai of Ukraine with a time of 39.59 astride Chadino.    

The Dubai Showjumping Championship (DSJC) is the highlight of the Arab League Showjumping Tour and annually attracts some of the world’s top showjumpers. This year they will compete for a share of the AED716,000 in prizemoney offered over the three days. The competition is headed by the Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI World Cup Qualifier on Saturday with prizemoney of AED 245,000. In addition the DSJC allows GCC riders an opportunity to gain all-important FEI World Cup qualification points.

Thursday’s opening class the Dubai Equestrian Club Welcome Stakes featured 40 contestants and was won by Norbert Schumann of Romania aboard Lady Blue in a dominating time of 32.71. France’s Frederic David finished second as he guided Saxo De La Roque to a time of 36.04. Close behind in third was Marion Hughes of Ireland astride Laith with a clocking of 36.12.

The DSJC features high profile sponsors with Emirates the official airline, Longines serves as the official timekeeper and the official newspaper is Gulf News as each support the event’s headline classes. These include: the popular Longines Accumulator on Saturday, the Longines Speed Stakes on Friday; the Gulf News Dubai Cup Qualifier on Friday; and the highlight event the Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix on closing day.

Organised by the Dubai Equestrian Club, part of the Meydan Group, the event is held at the Emirates Equestrian Centre.

The first event on Friday will be the Gulf News Dubai Cup Qualifier at 2:30 pm, and Saturday will begin at 11:30am with the Longines Accumulator.

Admission is free and entertainment is available for the entire family including, pony rides, , children’s play area, face painting and drill rides by Dubai Pony Club.
